As the cold and flu season settles in, many turn to natural remedies for a little extra support. One such time-honored tonic is fire cider—a spicy, tangy, and invigorating herbal blend known for its immune-boosting properties.
Fire cider typically combines raw apple cider vinegar with powerful ingredients like garlic, ginger, horseradish, turmeric, and cayenne pepper, often sweetened with honey. This potent concoction is steeped for weeks, allowing the flavors and benefits to meld. Each ingredient contributes to the cider’s reputation as a wellness powerhouse: garlic and ginger offer antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, turmeric combats oxidative stress, and cayenne stimulates circulation.
A tablespoon or two a day can help fortify your immune system, ease sinus congestion, and support overall vitality. It can be taken straight, diluted in warm water, or drizzled over your favorite foods as a tangy dressing.
While fire cider isn't a cure-all, incorporating it into your routine may provide an extra layer of defense against seasonal ailments.
As always, consult your healthcare provider before trying new remedies, especially if you have underlying conditions. Stay warm, stay healthy, and let nature’s pantry support you this season!
My fire cider recipe is below. I do not measure as the quantities I use depend on the size of the mason jar I'll be storing it in.
Apple cider vinegar
Apples
Garlic
Ginger
Cayenne pepper (ground)
Pure wildflower or clover honey
Whole turmeric root
Seal your mason jar and store in the refrigerator for several weeks until ready.
Enjoy!
